Popcorn Ceiling Removal and Level 5 Drywall Finish
Cover the floor with new soft waterproof dropcloth and thin plastic with tape attached hanging down at least 4′ where the ceiling meet the wall or moulding. After removing the popcorn with clear water sprayed on popcorn you will spray only enough to get the popcorn off without damaging the ceiling trial and error less is the best place to start and a 6″ drywall knife. The next step is to repair any damage done to ceiling with Fiberglass mesh tape and Speed Set also known as Durabond mud. Raise the seams and fastener areas by 1/16″-1/8″ then fill in between with 90 Minitue Durabond. Let dry 24-48 hours depending on humidity, then sand in one direction with 80 gritt by hand then 150 gritt in the other direction. Now you are ready for the finish use a high hiding primer 2 coats. Now 2 coats of flat ceiling paint or if you want a diferrent look tint some flat paint to 5-25 percent of the wall color. If you have any questions give me a call at 843 364-3700.
